I started thinking bout it pretty hard the other day
The crushing darkness at the fringes of most everything
And I’ve began to see it as a bit of a malaise
It starts to follow me and permeate my very days

I used to think I wouldn’t scare no more now that I’m old
I’m leaving lights on in the kitchen where I used to go
I felt it reaching for me so I ran in distress
Cast my flashlight to kill, I’m lying dear I must confess…

I am afraid of the dark

I know a reason why I’m frightened by impermanence
I know a reason why
I am afraid

I’d like to say I’d get a subtle vote of confidence
I’d like to say I’m not but
I am afraid

In dreams I wake up in a different place by mistake
I try to find a way out force myself to awake
And then I realize how it’s always been lurking late
The darkness waiting for me patiently without abate

And now I see it in the left out lines of things we know
When we say they and they are something so unspoken for
I see it when you talk about the distant future
I’m not ashamed to say it reinforce the rumors (that)

I wish I’d say that I’m invincible and evident
I wish I was but I know

I started seeing it as if it were preeminent
now that I’ve seen it yes

I want to ask you if you believe in God
And try to imagine the universe is no facade
The darkness fills my guts and bends my arms up to the sky
I vomit questions up with no relent or reasons why

The inner forces that seem to control my waking mind
Are taking orders from the darkness in my eyes behind
I need my atoms back unwilling, though I must proceed
And if I don’t return remember me and take my heed
